The Transit System for the City of Pigeon Forge began services in 1986. At the onset of the project the name chosen at the time was City of Pigeon Forge Fun Time Trolleys. The name was created by students at the local grammar school. At the beginning there were five trolleys which served the City. Over the years the transit system began to grow and the routes continued to increase. In 2018 the transit system began the process of rebranding. Ridership had gone from just a few hundred in the early days to well over two million a year by 2018. By the end of 2019 ridership had actually increased to over three million and suddenly Pigeon Forge Mass Transit was getting noticed by transit agencies all over the country. At one point in 2019 PFMT was recognized as the number one rural fixed route transit system in America. The rebranding to Pigeon Forge Mass Transit better suits the actual service that is now provided.
Along with the rebranding, we are now in a new state of the art Transit Center. The new location offers all of our guests a much easier experience in both comfort and safety. We now have seven covered trolley berths where guests can embark and debark.
We now serve the entire City of Pigeon Forge and a section of the City of Sevierville. We travel up to the Gatlinburg Welcome Center and from there you can connect with Gatlinburg Mass Transit and go on into Gatlinburg. We also service Dollywood and Splash Country along with the LeConte Convention Center parking lot.
The mission of the Pigeon Forge Mass Transit Department is to enable our guests and locals to enjoy the scenery and beauty of Pigeon Forge and the extended area without concerns of having to watch the road. You can shop, eat or simply just sight see and let us do the driving. We want to welcome you all to Pigeon Forge and we hope you enjoy your stay.
